The historic town of Petworth is full of independent boutiques, art galleries, numerous antique shops and restaurants. Visit Petworth cottage museum, Petworth Park and Petworth House with its art collection including works by Gainsborough and Rembrandt.
West Grinstead
West Grinstead is home to the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation, a Roman Catholic parish church which is an important centre of Catholic pilgrimage. Knepp Castle is nearby – now a modern castellated mansion, the original motte and bailey castle was constructed in the 12th century.

Thatched cottage roofs abound in the village of Amberley at the foothills of the South Downs. Check out the Amberley Museum & Heritage Centre – a working museum with narrow gauge railway and bus service and the peace and quiet of Amberley Castle.
Pulborough
Pulborough is set on the River Arun where you can explore the remains of Pulborough Castle. Visit the peace of RPSB Pulborough or make your way to Bignor Roman Villa to see the remains of a large Roman home including stunning mosaic work dating back to 345AD.
