Overview
Leave the lights of Scarborough and head back to nature in Dalby Forest. Pause at Pickering before arriving in Helmsley. From Thirsk make for Danby in the Esk Valley. Run back down the coast passing through Whitby to arrive back in Scarborough.
Scarborough
One of the great British seaside resorts, Scarborough is home to two sandy beaches and a wealth of traditional entertainment. The magnificent Scarborough Castle, Rotunda Museum, Sealife and Peasholm Park Japanese Gardens are amongst the list of attractions.
Dalby Forest
A huge forest in the North York Moors National Park, Dalby Forest is a great place for outdoor adventure. Take to a bike, set out on foot, jump aboard a horse or Segway and set off to explore the trails and valleys of the forest.
Pickering
Pickering is known as a “gateway to the moors” and the also the southern terminus for the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Explore the old market town and enjoy a range of independent boutiques and eateries or head off to Pickering Castle and Newbridge Park.
Helmsley
The only market town set in the North York Moors National Park, Helmsley offers a warm welcome to visitors – explore Helmsley Castle, the Walled Gardens and browse the Helmsley Art Centre or galleries before settling down to enjoy some refreshments in one of the wonderful eateries.
Thirsk
The cobbled market town of Thirsk in the Vale of York was the spiritual home of the vet, James Herriot – visit the World of James Herriot – an award winning visitor centre and museum, to discover the life and times of the great vet.
Danby
A moorland village in the Esk Valley, sat beneath Dany Low Moor, Danby is a great base to explore the surrounding area. Check out Danby Castle and the The Moors National Park Centre on the banks of the River Esk.
Whitby
Fish and chips anyone? Whitby is a seaside and fishing village overlooking the North Sea, bisected by the River Esk. Explore the ruined Gothic Whitby Abbey on the cliff top and then head down to the harbour or take in the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, located in the house where Cook once lived.
