Overview
Leave Liverpool city centre and cross to Birkenhead before pushing up the coast to Crosby. Enjoy the sandy beach at Formby before reaching the resort of Southport. Visit St. Helens and Knowsley before returning to Liverpool.
Liverpool
The historic port city of Liverpool is world renowned for its music scene – explore home of the Beatles, Cilla Black and many more talented musicians. Take a tour of the Albert Dock overlooked by the iconic Liver Building to learn about the importance of the port to the city of Liverpool.
Birkenhead
Cross the water to Birkenhead on the Wirral to tour Hamilton Square, home to the Birkenhead Town Hall. Explore the oldest building on Merseyside – Birkenhead Priory & St. Mary’s Tower, dating from the 12th century, if you fancy retail therapy head to Pyramids Shopping Centre, for some culture head to the Williamson Art Gallery.
Crosby
Crosby Beach is famous for “Another Place” – a spectacular 100 piece sculpture set of life-size cast iron figures by Antony Gormley spread over 3kms of the foreshore. You can enjoy a walk along the coastal path for views of the Wirral and North Wales.
Formby
Sand dunes, coastal pine woods and sweeping sands make Formby beach a great place to relax and take in some fresh air. Explore prehistoric footprints, walk, cycle, run or enjoy a picnic and get away from it all. With luck you may see a red squirrel in the National Trust nature reserve.
Southport
The large town of Southport on the Sefton Coast is packed with things to do. Head to the beach to try building sandcastles, walk along the one of the oldest and longest piers in the country or enjoy some traditional seaside entertainment. Explore the golf courses, relax in a restaurant or enjoy one of the many events on offer throughout the year.
St Helens
Explore some history at the Museum of Road Transport or The World of Glass. Take in Dream – a 20m high sculpture by Jaume Plensa. If you enjoy sport then take a trip Haydock Park or St. Helens rugby league team.
Knowsley
Take a walk on the wild side at Knowsley Safari Park – complete with 5 mile safari drive or explore the National Wildflower Centre. You can also enjoy a guided tour of the magnificent Knowsley Hall or relax in one of the extensive parks.
Liverpool
You can explore the heritage of Liverpool through a series of museums, spend the day at Liverpool ONE to enjoy the shopping. Take a ferry ‘cross the Mersey, explore one of Liverpool’s Cathedrals or take a football stadium tour at Liverpool or Everton.
