Bradgate Park
Set in the Charnwood Forest and covering 850 acres Bradgate Park is an opportunity to escape the city and get back to nature. Take a walk, cycle ride, or enjoy a picnic as you explore the park taking in the River Lin and watching the deer.
Kirby Muxloe
The village of Kirby Muxloe contains the ruins of the fortification of Kirby Muxloe Castle. Visitors can explore the moat, corner tower and gatehouse of the 15th century manor house.
Hinckley
Surrounded by beautiful countryside, you can visit the market town of Hinckley to explore the history of the Hinckley Museum and the Triumph Motorcycle Museum. Then head for some of the independent boutiques and shops on the high street.
Market Bosworth
Another traditional market town, Market Bosworth hosts a clutch of independent shops, eateries and tearooms, as well as the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre that tells the story of how King Richard III lost his life in the Battle of Bosworth – which is marked by an annual re-enactment.
Ashby-de-la-Zouch
The small market town, often known as Ashby is home to Ashby Castle – which started as a 12th century manor house and became a castle in the 15th century. Explore the underground passages and climb the tower to get some amazing views.
Loughborough
The second largest settlement in Leicestershire, Loughborough welcomes visitors to a collection of shops, eateries and attractions including Bell Foundry – where you tour the world’s largest working bell foundry the heritage Great Central Railway and nearby Stoneywell, an arts and crafts house.
Melton Mowbray
Set on the River Eye and River Wreake, the market town of Melton Mowbray is famous for fox hunting, farming and food – think pork pies and Stilton Cheese! Visitors can also explore Carnegie Museum and Twinlakes Park.
Market Harborough
The market town of Market Harborough is home to a range of independent shops, stalls, cafés and restaurants. Visit Foxton Locks on the Grand Union Canal, Harborough Museum, Welland Park or the nearby Military Vehicle Museum.
