Overview
Leave the Victorian splendour of Folkestone and enjoy the coastal views as you head to Hythe and on to the wild open spaces of Romney and Dungeness. Turn inland along the motorway heading through Godinton, stopping at Leeds Castle before arriving in the historic town of Maidstone.
Folkestone
Stroll The Leas, Folkestone’s mile long promenade with views across to France to get some fresh air. Visit the cobbled Creative Quarter and explore over 100 artistic enterprises. Drop into the Folkestone Harbour Arm to relax and enjoy a drink or bite to eat.
Hythe
Relax in the quaint coastal market town of Hythe on the edge of Romney Marsh. Visit the 90 year old narrow gauge railway that runs for 14 miles to Dungeness. Nearby you will find four castles, including the ruins of the Roman Stutfall Castle and Port Lympne Wild Animal Park.
New Romney
An original cinque port, New Romney is an historic town on the edge of Romney Marsh. Visit the former almshouses, the ruins of 13th century St. John’s Priory and St. Nicholas Church where you can still see the boat hooks on the walls. Wander the historic high street and interesting shops.
Dungeness
The wild beauty of Dungeness is a Site of Special Scientific Interest formed almost entirely of flint shingle. Enjoy the wide open spaces, take a walk and recharge your batteries amongst nature in the fresh air. Explore the visitor centre at the nuclear power station and in the summer months you can visit The Old Lighthouse nearby.
Godinton
Godinton on the outskirts of Ashford is home to the Jacobean Godinton House and Gardens. Explore the house to view the historic collections and wander the 12 acres of gardens and park land.
Maidstone
Historic Maidstone is packed with things to do. Take a river cruise or venture out to the spectacular Leeds Castle or park and gardens at Mote Park. Take in the historic sites around the town, view the statues on Bank Street before relaxing with a Kentish Afternoon Tea.
